CLINTON, Miss. - Playing in winds up to 40 mph, the Hardin-Simmons football team came away with a 14-0 win over Mississippi College, Saturday afternoon at Robinson-Hale Stadium in Clinton, Miss. The Cowboys' potent offense was limited to 293 yards on the day and just 103 yards on the ground on 29 carries. The Cowboys also had two fumbles and an interception. It was the defense that stood strong for the Cowboys pitching its first shutout since a 21-0 win over the same Mississippi College team in 2003. The Cowboys stopped the Choctaws three times in the red zone. Jordy Bernhard, who was making his first career start for the Cowboys, completed 18-of-28 passes for 215 yards and two scores. Jared May had a huge day for the Cowboys. He returned three punts for 90 yards and also had six catches for 59 yards and a score. He capped a three-play, 24-yard drive he set up with a 47-yard punt return, with a 31-yard TD reception from Bernhard. The Cowboys' were backed up on the drive by a holding penalty. Bernhard sealed the game in the fourth quarter when he found Matt Epperson for a 48-yard touchdown, capping a 9-play, 90-yard drive. The defense limited the Choctaws to 278 yards on the game. All-American Will Galusha had his first interception of the season Eric Daniels led the way with eight tackles. Hardin-Simmons is now 3-0 on the season and returns home for Howard Payne on Oct. 1 at Shelton Stadium. MC fell to 0-2 on the year. --- HSU Athletics --- |
