Cowboys Fall to Wisconsin-Stout

MENOMONIE, Wis. - Hardin-Simmons' football team dropped a 31-21 game to Wisconsin-Stout, Saturday afternoon in its season opener in Menomonie, Wisconsin.

The Cowboys jumped on the board in the first quarter when Lance Moore scored from 12 yards out. The Cowboys added another score from Triandos Sherrard on a 46-yard pass from Jordan Neal.

However, the Blue Devils responded with 31 unanswered points. Dan Austin had two short touchdown receptions one at the 8:34 to go in the second quarter and another at the 8:14 mark of the third period.

Running back Luke Bundgaard added a rushing touchdown to tie the game with four seconds remaining in the first half. Matt Sprester added a 42-yard touchdown to round out the Blue Devils' scoring with 9:19 to go in the fourth quarter.

The Cowboys tacked on a Jordan Neal 1-yard run with 2:02 to go on the game and the Blue Devils were able to run out the clock after a failed on-side kick by the Cowboys.

Jordan Neal was impressive in his debut as the Cowboy starting quarterback. He completed 26-31 passes for 273 yards and a touchdown.

Wisconsin-Stout had 439 yards in the game, including 207 yards on the ground. The Blue Devils controlled the clock, winning the time of possession battle 32:59-25:01.

The Cowboys will begin American Southwest Conference play next Saturday when it travels to Seguin for a 2 p.m. game with Texas Lutheran
