Cowboys Beat Pointers, 38-12

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - Hardin-Simmons' fourth-ranked football team went on the road and came away with a 38-12 win over Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Saturday afternoon.

The Cowboys moved the football with ease on in the first quarter with 227 yards of total offense. Junior running back Quinton Jones took his first carry of the year 62 yards for a touchdown to make it 7-0 Cowboys with 13:46 to go in the game.

The Cowboy defense came right out with a stop, but Will Galusha fumbled the punt return and the Pointers fell on it. The defense held the Pointers to a 28-yard field goal to make it 7-3 at 9:44 in the first.

HSU moved down the field on its next series and Jordan Neal, who connected on his first eight pass attempts for 129 yards in the first quarter, plunged in from 1-yard out. Dan Heldman's second 28-yard field goal of the game was sandwiched by a pair of Jordan Neal interceptions in the end zone.

The Cowboys' Rob Galusha forced and recovered a fumble and the Cowboys quickly scored in three plays when Neal hit Jones on a 14-yard pass with 5:13 to go in the third quarter.

Brett Borchart hit Cory Fliskakowski on a 18-yarder touchdown pass to cut the game to 21-12 and the two-point conversion failed at the 13:33 mark of the fourth quarter.

Sophomore transfer Scott Bryant hit a 44-yard field goal at the 6:27 mark to make it 24-12. HSU put it away with two scores in the fourth quarter. Brad Clark had a 19-yard touchdown run and Chris Surratt returned a fumble 65 yards.

HSU finished the day with 534 yards of total offense. Quinton Jones had 122 yards on 14 carries and Brad Clark added 92 on 13 totes. Will Galusha led the defense with 11 tackles.

Neal finished the day 20-for-28 with 283 yards and one touchdown. Josh Howard had five catches for 72 yards and Jared May and Matt Epperson had 68 and 62 yards respectively.

The Cowboys will return to action Sept. 17 when it hosts Louisiana College in the home and conference opener.
