Sept. 2, 2006

Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - Jordan Neal and Reggie Robinson, two Hardin-Simmons football players that missed most or all of last season, came back with a vengeance to lead the Cowboys to a 49-17 win over Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Saturday night at Shelton Stadium.

Neal was especially sharp leading the Cowboys on three touchdown drives in the first three possessions to give the Cowboys a 21-0 lead, 24 seconds into the second quarter. He was 9-for-13 for 180 yards and two TD passes in those three drives. He had scoring strikes of 48 yards to Will Galusha and 33 yards to Justin Greene.

Robinson had five tackles and two sacks in his first game since the 2004 finale. He moved to third on the career sack list with 16 passing Anthony Christian.

In the opening drive of the season the Cowboys went 12 plays and 78 yards in 5:05 and Quinton Jones capped it with a 4-yard touchdown run.

The Cowboys made it 28-0 with 1:35 to go in the half when Matt Fields carried four defenders into the end zone on a 22-yard pass from Neal. UWSP scored a touchdown on a Brett Borchart pass to Jacob Dickert from two yards out.

Mychal Carrillo made it 35-7 on a 17-yard pass from Neal with 8:16 to go in the third quarter. Stevens Point scored following a Cowboy fumble to make it 35-14 with 1:53 to play in the third and then a John Ryan field goal narrowed the gap to 35-17 with 12:02 to play.

Jones answered with a 42-yard touchdown run. The Cowboys scored the final touchdown of the game when freshman quarterback Justin Feaster found freshman slotback Henry Woodard on a scrambling throw for a touchdown.

HSU rolled up 482 yards of total offense in the game and averaged 7.8 yards per play. Jones had 98 yards rushing and Will Galusha, playing his first game at receiver, caught five balls for 131 yards and a touchdown and also had a 94-yard touchdown called back by a penalty. Neal went 19-for-27 for 291 yards and four touchdowns.

Ke-Ke Sims had nine tackles to pace the defense and Keke Balanciere had five pass break-ups in the secondary.

HSU will host Linfield on Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. at Shelton Stadium.
