Zach Pickelman

Feb. 18, 2006

AUSTIN, Texas - Valentino Maxwell broke Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team's heart with a running jumper with 11.8 seconds to play as Concordia-Austin upset the Cowboys, 71-70, Saturday afternoon at the Woltman Activities Center in Austin.

The Cowboys had a last second-shot, but James Peters' jumper just rolled off the rim. HSU has battled back from a 43-29 deficit at halftime. HSU scored the first 11 points of the second half and eventually took the lead by as many as five points.

The loss ends the Cowboys' season with a 14-11 record. They finished in a fourth-place tie with Sul Ross State, but lost the tiebreaker. HSU had a 13-9 mark. Concordia finished its year at 6-18 overall and 5-17 in league play.

Zach Pickelman led the Cowboys with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Mardochee Jean had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Peters finished with 13.
