Jan. 22, 2003 ABILENE, Texas - Senior forward Bryan Conover currently leads the Cowboys averaging 13.9 points and 8 rebounds per game. He has helped the Cowboys surpass their win total from last year by one and hopes for more conference wins this year. Conover sat down for a quick question and answer period. What do you think of this year's team? This year's team is a lot better. Because of our competitiveness, I feel we are on the right track to win the close games. Coach Howard is doing a good job in teaching us. How is this year's team different from your last two year's playing at Hardin-Simmons? This year's team has more skilled players who can shoot. What do you think about surpassing last year's win total by one? I think its ok, but we expect and want more wins this year, especially in conference. How do you fit in the team dynamic? I am a team player by helping out and shooting as much as I can. Some players see me as a leader so I always try to set a good example. What are your strengths? My strengths are rebounding. I hope to be the top rebounder in our conference. I also think I am a good shooter and passer. How does it feel to be the top scorer of the team, by averaging 13.9 points per game? Stats are stats; I try not to focus on them and try to make shots. What do you think about during a game? I think about the game going on. If we are down, how I can help at the moment. What gets you motivated? The game of basketball and competition motivate me. How do you feel about conference action so far? I feel right now all of the ASC West schools are playing well and we are competing at the same level as them. We come so close to winning so many times. Are you meeting your personal goals you set in the beginning of the season? I feel I can improve on my shooting percentage. I feel I have met being the top scorer and rebounder on the team and hope to lead the conference in rebounds. What can we expect for the rest of the season from you and the team? You can expect more wins. We want to win the close games. What is your favorite memory about playing at Hardin-Simmons? My first year playing at Hardin-Simmons I had a dunk against Concordia. That was exciting. The first game of this year against UT Dallas, I won the game in overtime. How is balancing being a student-athlete and work during basketball season? It doesn't seem too hard. I know where to go and what to do to get everything done. I am not sleeping too much right now. What are your plans after Hardin-Simmons? I plan to coach high school basketball somewhere. |
