Cowboys Fall To UTA

ARLINGTON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team dropped a 74-54 game to Division I UT-Arlington, Saturday afternoon at Texas Hall on the UTA campus.

UTA jumped out to a 30-10 lead in the first half and the game was never in doubt after that. HSU did cut it to 38-24 at one point, but UTA pushed the lead back out.

The Cowboys were led in scoring by senior Mardochee Jean with 12 points and freshman Tony Mataya had a career-best 10 points. HSU shot just 34.4 percent, while the Mavericks shot 48.2 percent from the field.

Rog'er Guignard led the Mavericks with 23 points, including seven 3-pointers. E hit four straight to start the second half and end any comeback hopes by the Cowboys. Anthony Vereen had 15 points.

UTA improved to 9-2 with the win, while the Cowboys fell to 4-5 overall. HSU will return to conference action on Thursday when it hosts the University of the Ozarks at the Mabee Complex.
