ABILENE, Texas - ASC East Division leader Mississippi College shot an outstanding 52 percent from the field in the first half, but was even better in the second half shooting an unbelievable 73 percent en route to an 83-74 win over Hardin-Simmons, Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex. The Cowboys jumped out to a 20-6 lead at the 11:58 mark of the first half and led by five points at halftime 38-33. The Choctaws made their first five shots of the second half and were 16 for 22 in the second period. The game had seven lead changes and five ties in the contest. Zach Pickelman, Calvin Nite and Tanner Kudrna had 18 points each and James Peters added 10 for HSU. Tyler Winford led the Choctaws with 19 points and Lonnie Vasquez had 15, including three back-breaking 3-pointers. Hardin-Simmons fell to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in league play. Mississippi College improved to 7-1 overall and 5-1. HSU closes out its fall semester with a 3 p.m. game Monday against Louisiana College. |
