CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team received a career-best 34 points from senior Zach Pickelman and were able to hold off the University of the Ozarks 86-79 in American Southwest Conference action Thursday night in Clarksville. Pickelman was on fire the entire night as he hit 7-of-9 3-pointers. Mardochee Jean added 19 points and eight rebounds and seldom-used Trent Martin filled the role of Michael Dinkins, who was out with an ankle injury, with 13 points and six assists. The Cowboys had a comfortable seven-point lead at halftime, 38-31, and the second half was played at a furious pace with both teams scoring 48 points. HSU shot 67 percent in the final half to secure the win. Ozarks had four players in double figures, led by Habeeb Kareem with 22 points. Ted Beard added 18, including 17 in the second half. HSU is now 4-3 on the year and 4-2 in ASC action. Ozarks is 4-4 on the year and 3-2 in league play. HSU will be off until Dec. 16 when it hosts Trinity. |
