Dec. 7, 2002 ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' young basketball team trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half, but cut the final margin to 11 at 100-89 in the conference opener against McMurry, Saturday at the Mabee Complex. The two teams were tied at 43 at halftime, but the Indians used a pressure defense to force 27 turnovers and were able to pull out to a big lead. The Cowboys came back behind freshman Weston Ryon, who hit 5-of-7 3-pointers to lead the team with 19 points. HSU had five players in double figures, including Jason Eaker, with 16, Jordan Clower and Bryan Conover with 12 each and Grant Justus with 10. Clower led the rebounding effort with 10. McMurry was led by Juan Muniz with 19 points and 13 rebounds. HSU fell to 2-3 and 0-1 in ASC play, McMurry improved to 2-2 and 1-0 in loop action. HSU returns to action on Dec. 14 at Southwest Texas State. |
