Final Stats

TYLER, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team dropped a triple overtime thriller to UT-Tyler 76-64, Thursday evening at the Herrington Center in American Southwest Conference crossover action.

After a stop by each team with a minute to go in regulation, the Cowboys sent the game to overtime at the buzzer when with 5.6 Matt Brackett through a lob on an out-of-bounds play to Tory Peters who went up for the lay-up but was long. Adam Shoupe rebounded the miss and put it home.

In the first overtime, Adam Shoupe scored back-to-back buckets at 2:21 and 1:40 to give the Cowboys a 58-55 lead. Michael Galloway hit a 3-pointer at the 1:20 mark to tie the game at 58. HSU went back on top when Tory Peters rebounded and put back a Carl Thompson miss with 45 seconds.

A Dathan Jones steal gave the Cowboys the ball back with 23.9 seconds. Carl Thompson was fouled with 17 second but missed the front-end of a one-and-one. UTT called a timeout with 13.1 seconds to set up a play that resulted in a play that got Darren Dennis a lay.up with 0.2 seconds to send it to a second overtime.

The second overtime was even more dramatic as Quinn Parker hit a pair of free throws to make it 64-61 with 11.9 seconds to go. Junior guard Jonas Fuller hit a fade-away turn-around 3-pointer to tie it and send it to a third overtime.

In the third overtime, Galloway hit a a jumper with 1:20 to give the Patriots a 69-64 lead then hit a pair of free throws with 1:00 remaining to make it 71-64. UTT was able to ectend the lead down the stretch as the Cowboys were forced to foul.

The game was tied at 47-47 with 3:19 to go in the game, when Galloway hit a pair of free throws and then knocked down a 3-pointer on the next possession to give UTT a five-point lead. Quinn Parker made it 54-47 with 2:13 left with a right wing jumper.

HSU countered with a 3-pointer by Dathan Jones with 1:50 left. Adam Shoupe scored another bucket with 1:01 left to make it 54-52.

The Cowboys used a 16-5 run over the last three minutes of the first half and the first seven minutes of the second half to take a 32-31 lead after trailing 26-15 with four minutes to go in the first half.

Shoupe led the Cowboys with 16. Galloway and Nick Barnett had 16 each for UT Tyler.

HSU fell to 1-4 with the loss and UT Tyler improved to 1-3, the first win in their inaugural season. Hardin-Simmons returns to action Saturday at North Texas.
