ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team won its third straight American Southwest Conference with an ugly 54-40 win over LeTourneau, Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex. The two teams combined to go just 29-for-107 in the game. The Cowboys had control of the game from the outset. The Cowboys scored the first eight points of the game and never trailed. The Yellowjackets were never closer than four after the initial spurt. The Cowboys played great defense for most of the game and LeTourneau only made nine shots through the first 35 minutes of the game. The Cowboys used an 8-0 run from the 7:03 mark to the 3:54 mark to take a game-high 16 point lead. Zach Pickleman had five of his 20 points in the run. Mardochee Jean had another huge night for the Cowboys. He had 13 points, 17 rebounds and a school and American Southwest Conference record nine blocks. Tanner Kudrna added 15 points, fueled by a 11-of-13 effort at the free throw line. HSU did not make a 3-pointer for the first time in 52 games. LeTourneau did not have a player in double figures. The Cowboys are now 4-2 on the year and 3-1 in ASC play. LeTourneau fell to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in league play. |
