Dec. 2, 2006
ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team's rally came up inches short as they fell to nationally-ranked Mississippi College, 70-67, Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex. The game was back and forth throughout and Mississippi College went ahead 66-59 on a pair of Jonathan Collins free throws, but Zach Pickelman and Matt Brackett sandwiched a pair of 3-pointers around a MC lay-up to make the score 68-65 with :21 to play. Mississippi College turned the ball over on the inbounds play and Michael Dinkins hit what one official ruled a 3-pointer, but his foot was correctly called on the line by the other official and it was 68-67 with six seconds to play. The Cowboys fouled and Collins hit two more free throws. HSU got off a 60-foot desperation shot, but it was well off the mark. Four players hit double figures for the Cowboys. Freshman Mike Dinkins had 18 points and Zach Pickelman added 16. Mardochee Jean and James Peters had 12 and 11 points respectively. Timothy Broomfield lead a balanced attack for MC with 16 points and 15 rebounds. HSU is now 2-3 on the year and 2-2 in the ASC. The Cowboys have lost the three games by a total of six points. Mississippi College improved to 4-1 on the year and 4-0 in league play. The Cowboys host crosstown rival McMurry on Monday at 7:30 p.m. |
