SHERMAN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team dropped a thrilling game to Austin College, 65-61, Tuesday evening in Sherman.

HSU trailed 60-54 with 2:42 to go in the game when, Bryan Conover scored a bucket in the paint to cut the lead to 60-56. He scored another bucket at the 1:41 mark to cut it to 60-58. Vincent Woodson hit a free throw at the 1:08 mark to give AC a 61-58 lead. Conover then hit a 3-pointer with :54 to tie the game at 61-61.

Woodson gave the Kangaroos a 63-61 lead with a bucket along the baseline with :36 left. Following a Cowboy, turnover Rodrick Kennedy split a pair of free throws to give AC a 64-61 advantage with :26 to play.

Jason Eaker had a 3-pointer to tie the game with :12 to go, but came up short. Woodson then split a pair of free throws for the final margin.

Eaker led the Cowboys with 17 points and Conover added 12. Justin Rose led AC with 24 points.

The Cowboys trailed by as many as 12 in the first half, but cut the deficit to 31-27 at the break. Freshman Adam Shoupe gave the Cowboys their first lead of the game at the 15:02 mark when he hit a pair of free throws to give the Cowboys a 42-41 advantage.

HSU (2-2) will return to action on Saturday when it hosts McMurry at 6:30 p.m. at the Mabee Complex in the American Southwest Conference opener for both schools. Austin College improved to 2-2 on the year.
