Dec. 1, 2003
ABILENE, Texas - Trailing by double digits most of the game, the Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball made a rally against Austin College, but it fell short as the Kangaroos hit free throws down the stretch to seal the American Southwest Conference Crossover win, 78-67, Monday at the Mabee Complex. HSU made a furious rally after being down as many as 16 to cut the deficit to 66-62, but could get no closer down the stretch. The Kangaroos were 15-of-16 at the line in the final 2:25 to seal the win. Tory Peters and Dathan Jones each had 12 points in the second half and both were involved in the Cowboys run to get back in the game, each scoring eight in a 22-8 run that closed it to 66-62 with 2:48 to go in the game. Peters finished the game with a team-best 23 points and 10 rebounds. Jones was the only other Cowboy in double figures with 15. J.P. Johnson led the Kangaroos with 25 points, including five 3-pointers. Anthony Holman and James Hill each had 13. Hardin-Simmons fell to 1-3 with the loss. Austin College improved to 1-1. HSU returns to action Thursday at UT-Tyler at 7:30 p.m. |
