RICHARDSON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team downed defending American Southwest conference champions UT-Dallas, 58-47, with a strong push down the stretch Monday evening at the UTD Activities Center in Richardson. The Cowboys got stellar play from its veterans down the stretch. Tanner Kudrna had 10 points down the stretch including two 3-point plays. Zach Pickelman scored five points in the final three minutes including a huge 3-pointer. He played only four minutes in the first half after being saddled with foul problems. HSU had a 26-17 lead at the half, but UTD came out with a 16-6 run to take a 33-32 lead. HSU responded with three straight 3-pointers, two by Rob Yeatts and one by freshman Charlie Pannell. Pannell had three 3-pointers in the game. Matt Brackett and James Peters shut down UTD scoring ace Martin Salinas. He had only two points in 35 minutes after dropping 40 in his last game. Kudrna led the Cowboys with 14 points and Matt Brackett had 10 o pace a balanced attack. Hardin-Simmons improved to 2-2 on the year and 1-1 in ASC play. UT-Dallas fell to 0-5 with the loss. |
