Nov. 25, 2002 Richardson, Texas - Senior forward Bryan Conover had 26 points and 14 rebounds and hit a game-winning three-point play with 4.6 seconds remaining in overtime to give the HSU men's basketball team a 66-64 victory over UT-Dallas in the season opener for both teams Monday night. HSU sophomore forward Matt Autry tied the game at 52 with 1:57 to play in regulation when he drilled a 25-foot off-balance 3-pointer. With 1:22 to play in regulation, Autry split a pair of free throws, giving HSU a 53-52 lead. UT-Dallas responded with a Jeff Garrett 3-pointer with 1:12 to play in regulation. HSU senior center Jordan Clower sank a five-foot turnaround jumper in the lane to tie the game at 55 with :35 seconds to play in regulation. UT-Dallas' Eric Chatham missed a pair of free throws that would have given the Comets the victory with seven seconds to play in regulation. UT-Dallas' Luke Rupert grabbed the rebound but his shot was rejected by Conover as time expired in the fourth quarter. In overtime, HSU's Autry nailed a 3-pointer with 39 seconds left to give the Cowboys a 63-62 lead. UT-Dallas' Chatman made two free throws with 16 seconds to play in overtime, giving the Comets a 64-63 lead before Conover's game-winning 3-point play. |
