Nov. 22, 2003 ABILENE, Texas - Playing its first game of the season at home for the first time in four years, the Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team jumped out to a 23-6 lead and never trailed en route to a 75-66 win over UT-Dallas, Saturday evening at the Mabee Complex. The Cowboys jumped out early as Tanner Kudrna hit three 3-pointers in the run as the Cowboys ratcheted up the defense. At the break the Cowboys led 37-19. In the second half, UT-Dallas came out hot and eventually cut the Cowboy lead to four points at 65-61 with 2:21 to go in the game, but the Cowboys executed down the stretch and hit 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch. Garrett Pool led the Cowboys with a solid floor game. He had 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals, while committing no turnovers in 28 minutes of play. Kudrna knocked home 4 3-pointers en route to 14 points. Tory Peters had 11 points, including six in the last two minutes of the game. HSU was 18-for-22 in the game game at the free throw line and forced 17 turnovers. The Cowboys will return to action Tuesday when it travels to Beaumont to face Division I Lamar. |
