SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' basketball team fell to Division I UT-San Antonio 69-47 in an exhibition game for the Cowboys, Friday night at the Convocation Center. The game was the regular-season opener for UTSA. HSU trailed 29-19 at halftime. The Cowboys limited the Roadrunners to 33 percent shooting in the first half and were only outrebounded 18-15 by the more athletic UTSA squad. UTSA came out of the halftime locker room on a run that was fueled by a pair of 3-pointers and a jumper by Joey Shank. A Rian Stubbs follow and a Charles Pannell 3-pointer cut a 45-26 deficit to 45-31 with 8:30 to play, but UTSA immediately went on a 10-3 run to push their lead to 20 at 54-34. HSU came back with an 8-2 run with six by Pannell and a jumper by Luckey to cut it to 56-42 with just over four minutes to play. Pannell led the Cowboys with 13 points and Luckey added 11. The Cowboys outshot UTSA 43 percent to 41 percent and only lost the battle of the boards 33-30. UTSA oustscored the Cow boys by 20 points at the free throw line. The Cowboys will open their regular season on Nov. 20 against Southwestern at the Mabee Complex. --- HSU --- |
