Cowboys Fall in ASC Final

CLINTON, Miss. - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team dropped a 77-64 decision to Mississippi College in the finals of the American Southwest Conference Championship, Sunday afternoon in Clinton, Miss.

The Cowboys trailed just 27-26 at halftime, but MC came out and pushed the lead to 43-31 early in the second half and HSU never cut it to less than four points the rest of the way.

Senior Zach Pickelman led the Cowboys with 18 points in his final game as a Cowboy. Matt Brackett ended his career with seven points and James Peters had five in the finale. Charlie Pannell had 13 points off the bench and Michael Dinkins added 10 points.

It was the first trip to the ASC final for the Cowboys in school history.

The Choctaws shot 50 percent for the game, including 61.5 percent in the second half. Timothy Broomfield had 21 points, Ryan Hudson 15 and D.J. Jones had 13.

Pickelman and Dinkins were on the all-tournament team for HSU.

HSU ends its season with a mark of 16-12 and Mississippi College is 25-2 and will head to the NCAA Tournament for the ninth straight season.
