Cowboys Fall To Howard Payne

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team trailed by 17 points at 60-43 with 8:18 to go in the game, but a 21-3 run got the Cowboys the lead but they were unable to hold off Howard Payne in the final two minutes as they dropped its season finale 72-65.

HSU did a good job on Benny West for most of the game as he had just seven points, going into the last minute, but he hit a pair of free throws and had a steal and a dunk in the final minute. West, the favorite for ASC Player of the Year, had just 11 points.

Freshman Zach Pickelman led the Cowboys with 15 points and six rebounds. Andre Washington closed the season with two straight double-doubles as he had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Brandon Mosley led HPU with 17 points.

The Cowboys finished their year with a 7-18 mark and a 5-9 record in ASC West play. HSU loses just one senior, Carl Thompson, who was a three-year starter and finished with eight points on Saturday. Howard Payne closes its campaign with a 16-9 mark and an 8-6 record in ASC West play.
