ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team won its third straight game with a 99-71 romp over visiting Concordia-Austin, Thursday night in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex. The Cowboys dominated the Tornados from the last six minutes of the half on and led 47-34 at the break. Mardochee Jean had 27 points 13 rebounds and Zach Pickelman added 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds as the Cowboys outrebounded the Tornados 45-27. Matt Brackett had 19 points and seven assists and James Peters added 10 points. HSU outshot Concordia 59 percent to 38 percent. However, the Tornados did manage to make 12 3-pointers in the game. HSU countered with 52 points in the paint and 30-of-35 at the free throw line. Concordia sharpshooter Joel McDonald scored the Tornados first eight points, but the league's leading scorer only had four points the rest of the game. Justin Refer led the Tornados with 16 points. The Cowboys are now 14-10 on the year and 14-6 in league play. Concordia-Austin fell to 10-14 overall and 8-12 in league play The Cowboys will honor its three seniors on Saturday at 1 p.m. when it hosts Mary Hardin-Baylor. |
