ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team won its second straight American Southwest Conference game with a 79-61 win over Texas Lutheran Thursday night at the Mabee Complex. The Cowboys were led by their All-American candidate Mardochee Jean, who scored 23 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked six shots. Rob Yeatts hit a career-best six 3-pointers en route to a 20 point night. HSU led 29-23 with 5:28 to play in the first half and went on a 10-0 run to close the first half. Marcus Smith had four points and Jean had six points in the run to give the Cowboys a 39-23 lead at halftime. Texas Lutheran chipped away at the lead and cut it to 57-50 with 8:34 to play, but HSU responded with back-to-back 3-pointers by Yeatts and Charlie Pannell and a lay-up by Luckey and another 3-pointer by Yeatts to push the lead back to 68-52 with 6:53 to play. TLU got it down to 10 points on two other occasions, but could not get it any closer. Brad Howard led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Leading scorer Nate Walton was frustrated into a 3-for-15 night and chipped in 12 points. HSU is now 13-9 on the year and 12-6 in ASC action. Texas Lutheran fell to 2-20 overall and 2-16 in league play. HSU hosts Schreiner for senior day on Saturday. |
