SEGUIN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team overcame two 17-point deficits in the game and rallied for a 59-54 American Southwest Conference win over Texas Lutheran, Thursday evening at Memorial Gym in Seguin. Calvin Nite capped off a huge rally by hitting a 3-pointer with :15 to go in the game to give the Cowboys their first lead of the game at 57-54. HSU then stopped a pair of late 3-point attempts by Texas Lutheran to preserve the win. HSU trailed 24-7 in the first half and cut it to 28-24 with 3:10 to play in the half, before TLU went on a run to make it 38-25 at halftime. Texas Lutheran then moved the lead to 47-30 on a Nik Summers 3-pointer at the 14:21 mark. HSU then scored nine straight points on a 3-pointer by Zach Pickelman, a free throw by Tanner Kudrna and a lay-up and 3-pointer from freshman Marlon Washington to make it 47-39 at the 11:38 mark. A Mike Ekenam jumper at 8:51 was the last field goal of the game for Texas Lutheran. HSU's defense only allowed four field goals the entire second half. Pickelman, playing in front of many hometown fans from New Braunfels, led the Cowboys with 15 points. Kudrna had 13 and Calvin Nite had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Mike Ekanem led the Bulldogs with 14 points and Tommy Stohlhandske had 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Cowboys improved to 14-6 overall and 12-5 in league play. Texas Lutheran fell to 11-8 and 10-6 in conference play. HSU plays at Schreiner on Saturday at 3 p.m. |
