ABILENE, Texas - McMurry's men's basketball team came out of the gate on fire and Hardin-Simmons could never recover as the Cowboys dropped a 67-53 decision in American Southwest Conference action at Kimbrell Arena on Monday night.

McMurry jumped out to a 21-2 lead to start the game and the Cowboys chipped it away to 35-24 at halftime. HSU cut it to 46-43 on a Charlie Pannell 3-pointer and Bud Willis answered with a long 3-pointer to make it 49-43 with 8:35 to play. HSU was never closer than six points the rest of the way.

HSU had some chances to cut into the McMurry deficit, but McMurry was able to record 11 offensive rebounds in the second half and the Cowboys were just eight-of-14 at the free throw line in the second half.

Mardochee Jean led the Cowboys with 15 points and 14 rebounds. James Peters added 11 points for HSU. Alvin Stevens led McMurry with 21 points and eight rebounds. Bud Willis (13) and Kenny Gardner (11) each hit double figures.
