HSU Falls To UMHB

BELTON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team dropped its second straight game in a foul-marred American Southwest Conference, 72-61, at Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton on Saturday.

Hardin-Simmons trailed by 10 at the break 35-25 and were lucky to do so as they were called for 18 fouls, seven of them offensive. Zach Pickelman, Marodchee and Dan Jean each had three fouls and all played less than eight minutes.

HSU came out in the second half and took the lead after falling behind by as many as 11 in the second half. Mike Dinkins had a four-point play and a three-point play and gave the Cowboys their first lead at 10:44 in the second half.

UMHB came right back and moved the lead to 10 and the Cowboys could not recover. UMHB shot 40 free throws in the game. HSU was whistled for 31 fouls in the game with Pickelman, James Peters and Dan Jean fouling out.

Neiman Ford led UMHB with 19 points and Kevin Guyden added 28. Pannell led the Cowboys with 13 points. James Peters added 12 and Mike Dinkins scored 12 points.

HSU is 6-8 on the year and 6-4 in ASC West play. UMHB won its sixth straight and improved to 10-3 overall and 6-3 in league play to take over the league lead. HSU plays Schreiner on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
