Hardin-Simmons moved out to a dominating 47-24 halftime lead and held off a late rally by Sul Ross State to pick up an 84-72 road American Southwest Conference win in Alpine Thursday night. HSU led by as many as 26 points in the second half, but the Lobos made a rally to cut it to 11 points at 83-72. In the first half transfer Ryan Ocheskey had a huge effort with 12 points off the bench. He finished the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Zach Pickelman led the Cowboys effort with 24 points. Mardochee Jean added 16 points and 11 rebounds and Tanner Kudrna scored 12 points. HSU won the battle of the board 49-31. Sid Hooper led the Lobos with 17 points. The win was the Cowboys second in a row in Alpine and the third in a row over the Lobos. SRSU is 38-5 all-time at the Gallego Center. The Cowboys improved to 7-6 with the win and to 6-4 in league play. Sul Ross State fell to 5-8 overall and 5-5 in league play. HSU will travel to Brownwood on Saturday for a 3 p.m. game.
