April 22, 2007

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' athletic teams will send all six of its spring sports teams to American Southwest Conference Championships this weekend, making HSU the only school in the ASC to have all of its teams advance to conference championship play this season.

On Monday and Tuesday, the HSU golf teams will play at the ASC Championship at Stonebridge Ranch Golf Course in McKinney. Kristi Martin is the defending ASC medalist and the Cowboys are coming off their best tournament of the spring last week at the LeTourneau Invitational.

The HSU tennis teams will host the ASC Championships at Hardin-Simmons and McMurry on Thursday through Saturday. The HSU teams each have a bye and will play on Friday.

The men will play the winner of the LeTourneau and Texas Lutheran match at 10 a.m. Friday. A win would put them into the ASC final on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Cowboys (12-6), are looking for their sixth straight American Southwest Conference title. HSU is riding a 58-match ASC winning streak.

The women (10-3) will play the winner of the LeTourneau vs. McMurry match at 2 p.m. on Friday. The finals will be on Saturday at 2 p.m. HSU is trying for its seventh straight ASC title and are currently on a 65-match ASC winning streak.

The softball (25-14) team will look to defend its ASC title when it opens play at 6 p.m. on Thursday night at Southwest Park in Irving. HSU will play East Texas Baptist in the first round of the double elimination tournament. Play will continue through Saturday.

HSU's baseball team (25-15) will play at UT-Dallas in a best 2-of-3 series in the ASC Championship series. A win of the series would send the Cowboys to the ASC Tournament for the third straight year. The Cowboys will play at 2 p.m. on Friday and the first game Saturday will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Those games can be heard on KSLI 1280-AM.

HSU won titles in volleyball and men's and women's soccer this past fall.
