Brad Coleman

March 23, 2004

LUBBOCK, Texas - Hardin-Simmons had a rough day in the field and on the mound as they dropped a doubleheader to Lubbock Christian, Tuesday afternoon in Lubbock 18-6 and 14-13.

The Cowboys, who were playing without two of their top hitters Andy Harrington (sick) and ASC Hitter of the Week Michael Simpson (family emergency), fell behind early and never recovered in game one. LCU scored four runs in the second and third innings and added seven more in the fourth to set-up the run rule.

Josh Cosby allowed eight runs in two and two-thirds to take the loss. The Cowboys had four errors in the game. Leading the way for the Cowboys at the plate were Tim Donnelly, Barry Janisse and Brad Coleman with two hits each. Coleman had his first career home run in the contest.

In game two, the Cowboys took a 5-0 lead in the first inning, but gave the five runs back in the bottom of the second. In the third the Cowboys got three more runs to regain the lead and maintained the advantage until the bottom of the fifth when the Chaparrals got four more runs. LCU iced the game with three unearned runs in the sixth.

Offensively, the Cowboys were paced by Michael Popino, who had two hits and drove in four runs. Justin Wilson had two hits and drove in three runs. Brady Coke had two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Cory Summers took the loss out of the bullpen.

HSU dropped to 13-7 with the loss and LCU improved to 23-11. HSU, who is undefeated in ASC play, will play at ASC co-leader Texas Lutheran over the weekend for an early advantage in hosting the ASC Tournament.
