Final Stats

MARSHALL, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team jumped out to a 7-1 lead, but Texas Lutheran responded with nine unanswered runs to take the American Southwest Conference title with a 10-7 win on Monday afternoon in Marshall.

The Cowboys scored a run in the first off a balk and responded with six runs, including five with two outs in the third inning to take a 7-1. However, the Bulldogs got five and one-third shutout innings from seldom-used reliever Austin Yager and Jeff Paras shut the Cowboys down in the ninth for the save.

TLU had three-run home runs by Aaron Crais and Marc Savard and a solo shot by Crais, the Tournament's MVP.

Kurtis Lay took the loss in relief of Brian Arnold for the Cowboys. Barry Janisse had three hits for the Cowboys and earned all-tournament honors. Other Cowboys on the All-Tournament team included Taylor Lamar, Dalton Rucker and Craig Johnson.

The Bulldogs improved to 33-8 with the win and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. HSU ends its season at 28-19.
