Final Stats

SEGUIN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team ended its season on Sunday dropping a pair of games in the American Southwest Conference baseball tournament in Seguin, falling 7-0 to Texas Lutheran and 5-2 to UT-Dallas.

HSU ended its season with a mark of 28-17. The offense could not get anything generated in either game. The Cowboys did not have an extra-base hit on the day and left 18 runners on base.

Against TLU, the Bulldogs scored two runs in the third and sixth innings and put the game away with back-to-back home runs from Jacob Kaase and Aaron Crais. Brett Cannon and Scott Matocha each had four hits in the Bulldogs 16-hit attack. Daniel Besa tossed a complete-game seven-hit shutout.

Kurtis Lay was the losing pitcher for the Cowboys. He gave up 12 hits and seven runs in six-plus innings. He and David Willis were the Cowboys only seniors and they ended their career on Sunday. Ryan Stepp had two hits for HSU.

UT-Dallas jumped on the board with three runs in the top of the first inning and it was plenty of support for Trey Schurr, who went the distance for UT-Dallas as he scattered seven hits and did not allow an earned run.

Nick Bird had a two-run home run in the first inning and Trent Elizondo and Jake Jackson added solor shots in the third and seventh innings respectively. Brian Arnold allowed all five runs for the Cowboys as he scattered just six hits in six and one-third innings. Trevor Bunte led the Cowboys with a pair of hits.
