ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team allowed five runs in the eighth inning to drop a 5-3 decision to UT-Dallas on Friday night in the first game of the American Southwest Conference Championship Series at Hunter Field. The Cowboys jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Barry Janisse put the Cowboys on the board with a two-run homer in the third. Craig Johnson had an RBI single in the fourth. Kurtis Lay had a solid outing for the Cowboys on the mound. He went scoreless in the first seven innings, before allowing three runs in the eighth. He struck out nine. Kyle Tabor took the loss allowing two unearned runs. UT-Dallas got a two-run single by Mark Perez and then the Cowboys dropped a ball on a double-play that should have ended the inning. The Comets went on to score three more runs. The Cowboys did not have a baserunner after the fifth inning. HSU will need to win two games on Saturday to advance in the ASC Tournament. Game two will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday. |
