ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team fell behind 10-0 after three innings and could not rebound, falling 18-7, to Concordia-Austin in American Southwest Conference baseball action Saturday night at Hunter Field. The Tornados used five hits, all singles to get three runs in the first and then used a David White three-run homer for three more runs in the second. The Tornados added four runs on three hits and an error in the third to take the commanding lead. Trailing 14-0 in the eighth. the Cowboys scored seven runs to narrow the gap. Barry Janisse had a sacrifice fly, Jeff Wisner scored on a wild pitch, Michael Popino had an RBI single, Popino and Andy Harrington scored on an error, Brandon Beene doubled in a run Tim Donnelly singled in a run and Beene scored on an error. White put the icing on the cake for the Tornados with a grand slam in the ninth, giving him his second home run and his eighth RBI of the game. Steve Smith got the win on the mound, allowing only three runs over 7 and 1/3 innings. Popino had four hits and Donnelly and Justin Wilson each added a pair of hits for the Cowboys. The two teams will play a doubleheader Sunday at 1 p.m. The Cowboys need a sweep to advance to the American Southwest Conference Tournament. HSU is now 22-13 overall and 13-6 in ASC West play. Concordia-Austin is 26-11 and 15-4 in ASC play. |
