Cowboy Rally Falls Short

Andy Harrington had three hits

April 21, 2003

IRVING, Texas - Unlike Saturday's game when they scored six runs in their last at-bat to win, the Cowboys came up just short with four runs in the ninth inning in a 9-8 loss to the University of Dallas on Monday evening in Irving.

The Cowboys jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after 1 1/2 innings but were let down by a defense that committed five errors that let the Crusaders jump out to a 9-4 lead.

In the ninth the Cowboys scored four times. Ryan Devere led off with a walk and movrd to second on a Chuy Rodriguez single. Elliot Strader was hit by a pitch to load the bases after a fly out by John Schlaffer. Seth Gandy singled home Devere and Brady Coke doubled in two more runs. Andy Harrington hit a sacrifice fly to score Gandy and move Coke to third.

With the score now 9-8 Tim Donnelly was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and third, but Brandon Beene lined out sharply to first base to end the game.

Harrington led the Cowboy offense with three hits and two RBIs. Gandy and Coke each had a pair of RBIs.

HSu fell to 19-18 with the loss and Dallas improved to 28-8. HSU closes its season with a three-game set at Concordia Austin this weekend.
