Eight-Run Fourth Propels Big Win

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons baseball team scored eight runs in the fourth inning en route to a 16-4 American Southwest Conference win over Schreiner, Friday night at Hunter Field.

Andy Harrington led off the fourth inning with a double and moved to third on a single by Brian Whitworth. Jeff Wisner knocked in Harrington with a sacrifice fly. Ryan Devere singled to center and Chuy Rodriguez walked came in when John Schlaffer was hit by a pitch. Elliot Strader had a two-run single. Brady Coke then delivered a line-drive home run to left center, his first of the season.

Rodriguez and Harrington each had two-run homers in the late innings.

Strader got the Cowboys on the board in the first with an RBI single. Jeff Wisner had an RBI single in the second.

Rodriguez had four hits, including a home run and a triple. He drove in two and score four runs. Strader and Harrington each had three hits.

Matt Hinds moved to 5-2 with the complete game win. He scattered 10 hits gave up just three earned runs and stuck out seven while walking none. The Cowboys moved to 17-17 overall and 10-12 in league play.

Raymond Amora and Kevin Janda each had two hits to lead the Mountaineers, who fell to 7-25 and 4-15 in ASC play.

The two teams square off in a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. It will be the final home game of the season for the Cowboys five seniors.
