Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team won a rain-shortened non-conference game over Austin College, 6-4, Tuesday afternoon at Hunter Field.

The game started off miserably for the Cowboys as they committed three errors and allowed four runs in the top of the first inning. Brian Arnold got the start for the Cowboys, but could not overcome three hits, an error and a walk and was lifted after recording just one out.

Jeff Walker came in out of the bullpen and worked two and two-third innings of scoreless relief. Kyle Barton (4-0) went two innings to earn the win out of the bullpen.

HSU scored two runs in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded walk by Danny Ruth and also on a wild pitch.

Blake Koch had an RBI ground out in the second inning to start a four-run explosion. Brad Coleman followed with an RBI single and Michael Simpson blasted his 13th home run of the season. The 13 home runs are the most at HSU in the non-scholarship era in a season. He also leads NCAA Division III in home runs.

The bullpens took over the game and it was called after Austin College went down in order in the top of the fifth and the rain came pouring down right afterwards.

HSU has now won 10 of its last 11 games and is 22-15 on the year. Austin College fell to 17-21 on the season. HSU closes its regular season at Sul Ross State beginning on Friday at 7 p.m. The game can be heard on KSLI 1280-AM.
