AUSTIN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team split an ameircan Southwest Conference doubleheader with Concordia-Austin, Saturday afternoon in Austin. HSU lost the first game 7-4, but came back behind the stellar pitching of Josh Bishop for a 2-0 win in the nightcap. Bishop only allowed two hits for the Cowboys as he threw the first complete-game shutout of the season for the Cowboys. The senior from Odessa improved to 1-1 on the season. Kurtis Lay and Bo Vaculik, both who were making the most of a rare starting opportunity, each hit long solo home runs to give the Cowboys the only runs they would need. In the first game, the Tornados jumped out to a 7-2 lead, before the Cowboys scored two runs in the seventh and had the bases loaded before a strikeout ended the game. Craig Foreman was the loser on the mound. Michael Popino had a two-run home run in the game. Hardin-Simmons is now 21-15 on the year and 12-5 in ASC West play. Concordia is 17-13 on the year and 11-7 in league play. HSU plays at Angelo State on Monday at 7 p.m. --- HSU Athletics --- |
