Schedule/Results | Roster | News | Archives Arnold Throws a Gem as Cowboys Top Southwestern, 5-1
April 13, 2004 GEORGETOWN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons received eight-plus strong innings from freshman pitcher Brian Arnold and put together four runs in the fourth inning en route to a 5-1 win over Southwestern University, Tuesday night in Georgetown. Arnold, who was making his first career start for the Cowboys, went two batters into the ninth inning, allowing only seven hits and one earned run. He struck out three. He had pitched just 5 and 1/3 innings on the year. Justin Wilson worked the ninth for his first save of the year. Hardin-Simmons got four runs in the fourth as Wilson doubled. Michael Simpson followed with an infield single and Brad Coleman and Brady Coke had back-to-back walks to force in a run. Tim Donnelly followed with a double off the center field wall to score two runs and Scott Drake had a sacrifice fly to score Coke. In the ninth, Harrington had a two-triple that scored Drake with an insurance run. The Cowboys improved to 20-11 overall and Southwestern fell to an uncharacteristic 19-16 on the year. HSU, who along with Concordia-Austin, leads the American Southwest Conference West Division, will play a crucial American Southwest Conference series at Schreiner over the weekend.
