ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team gave up six runs in the second inning and could never recover in a 7-5 loss to Austin College on Tuesday afternoon at Hunter Field. HSU rallied with two runs in the sixth and three in the eighth. Craig Johnson was 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Cowboys and Barry Janisse, Brad Coleman and Michael Popino had two hits each. In the six-run second, Austin College had four straight two out hits, including a two-run double by Dennis Kelley and a two-run home run by Don Ferguson. Matt Hinds had a solid outing in relief for the Cowboys. He pitched five and one-third innings and allowed only four hits and no runs. Patrick Brandt took the loss. He allowed seven runs, six of which were earned. Clint Rushing earned the win for the Kangaroos. He gave up five runs in seven and one-third innings. Josh Culp came on in the eighth and worked out of a jam and recorded the save. Hardin-Simmons (19-12) will play at Texas Tech on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Austin College improved to 9-19 on the year. |
