Cowboys Fall To Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped a non-conference game to Southwestern, 7-5, Tuesday night in Georgetown.

HSU trailed early when Southwestern scored four unearned runs in the third inning and added another run in the fifth to make it 5-0. The Cowboys responded with three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to tie the game.

In the sixth, Ryan Stepp led off with a single and moved up on a wild pitch. Tre' Sellari drove him in with a single to right. Taylor Gibbs hit a sacrifice fly to right and David Willis had a RBI fielder's choice.

In the seventh, Taylor Lamar led off with an infield single and scored on a Ryan Stepp triple. Stepp came in on a groundout by Tre' Sellari.

Southwestern scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the win. Michael Murphy had a two-out, two-run single to bring in the winning runs for Southwestern. Kyle Barton took the loss for the Cowboys. Stepp had three hits for the Cowboys.

HSU fell to 20-13 on the year and Southwestern improved to 12-21. The two teams split the season series. The Cowboys will return to action Friday when they travel to Brownwood to open a three-game series with Howard Payne at 2 p.m.
