Cowboys Fall To Texas Tech

Final Stats

LUBBOCK, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped a 17-6 decision to Texas Tech in non-conference action Tuesday night at Dan Law Field in Lubbock.

Texas Tech took control of the game in the bottom of the second inning with eight runs. HSU responded with three runs in the top of the third. Blake Koch and Brad Coleman had RBI singles in the inning and the Cowboys scored the other run on a balk.

Tech scored three runs in the third, one in the fourth, three in the sixth and two more in the seventh. The Red Raiders pounded out 21 hits in the game.

HSU added a run in the sixth on a Ryan Stepp RBI groundout. In the eighth, the Cowboys scored a pair of runs. Michael Simpson had a RBI double and Stepp had a sacrifice fly in the inning.

The Cowboys, as expected, split up the innings for its pitchers. HSU used seven different pitchers in the game. James Sweatman took the loss.

Offensively, HSU seniors Coleman, Simpson and Taylor Lamar each had two hits.

HSU is now 18-15 on the year and the Red Raiders improved to 22-13. The Cowboys will host Howard Payne in a three-game set this weekend at Hunter Field.
