April 8, 2005 ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team won its third straight American Southwest Conference game with a 23-6 win over Schreiner Friday night at Hunter Field in Abilene. The Cowboys received a stellar one-hit pitching effort from freshman lefthander Dalton Rucker. He went seven innings, before giving way to the bullpen. HSU brought out the big sticks in the game, pounding out 22 hits and taking advantage of seven walks. Taylor Gibbs had a grand slam for the Cowboys off the bench. Elliot Strader had four RBIs and Barry Janisse scored four runs, had three hits including a home run and drove in two. Michael Popino had three hits drove in three and hit a home run, while scoring three runs. HSU is now 17-11 on the year and 9-3 in ASC West play. Schreiner fell to 12-20 overall and 4-9 in league play. The two teams will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday. |
