BELTON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team swept a doubleheader from Mary Hardin-Baylor (7-2, 10-7) to remain in second place in the American Southwest Conference West Division, Saturday afternoon at Red Murff Field in Belton.

In the first game, the Cowboys used the strong pitching effort of senior Craig Foreman. He allowed only four hits and struck out eight to improve to 2-3.

Justin Wilson had two home runs for the Cowboys to move his season total to 11, one away from Clay Johsnton's school record.

The Cowboys scored three runs in the second inning with three straight RBIs from the bottom third of the order. Michael Popino led off the inning with a walk, Michael Simpson was it by a pitch and Elliot Strader reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Geoff Wheeler had a bases loaded walk, Brad Coleman had a RBI fielder's choice and Taylor Lamar hit a sacrifice fly.

Wilson added a two-run shot in the third and a solo shot in the fifth. Lamar had a RBI double.

In the nightcap the Cowboys scored single runs in the third four in the fourth, two in the fifth and added a two-run insurance home run by Barry Janisse in the seventh.

Janisse had two hits and drove in three, Wilson scored three runs and drove in two. Elliot Strader added three hits.

Kyle Tabor, who earlier in the week set the school record for strikeouts, tied the school win record with his 14th win. He came on in relief and did not allow an earned run. Kurtis Lay pitched three and one-third innings of one-hit relief for the save.

The Cowboys are now 17-11 on the year and 8-3 in league play. UMHB falls to 10-19 overall and 6-6 in conference play. HSU plays at Southwestern in Georgetown on Tuesday.
