Cowboys Fall To UMHB

BELTON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' left 11 men on base and committed five errors in a 9-4 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor, Friday afternoon at Red Murff Field in Belton.

The Cowboys jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but UMHB scored three in the fourth and five in the sixth to take its 9-4 lead that it would not relinquish.

HSU had several scoring opportunities in the game but could never get a ball to fall in the 30 mph wind. Barry Janisse, Justin Wilson and Michael Popino each had two hits for the Cowboys. Leadoff hitter Ryan Stepp scored three runs.

The Cowboys had chances to get out of the two big innings with minimal damage, but a routine double ball was thrown into right field by Brad Coleman and Elliot Strader could not haul in a hard-hit line drive that went off his glove.

Dalton Rucker took the loss for the Cowboys allowing six runs in five innings. HSU is now 15-11 overall and 6-3 in league play. UMHB is 10-17 overall and 6-4 in ASC play.

The two teams will play a noon doubleheader on Saturday and the games can be heard on KAGT 90.5 FM in Abilene or at www.hsuathletics.com.
