Cowboys Sweep The Kangaroos In Two Games

SHERMAN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons baseball team won 8-5 and 3-2 over Austin College in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at Baker Field in Sherman.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Cowboys scored one run on a single by Josh Anderlohr in the first inning but Austin College came back by taking the lead 5-1 at the bottom of the second inning. Ryan Little had a three-run homer for AC.

In the third inning, HSU closed the gap by scoring two runs on a single by Elliot Strader and a double from Anderlohr.

AC was still up 5-3 until the sixth inning when HSU captured the lead by scoring five runs on a sacrifice file from Jeff Wisner, two Kangaroo errors and another double from Anderlohr.

Josh Anderlohr lead the Cowboy offense with three hits and three RBIs while Elliot Strader had two hits and one RBI. Anderlohr had two doubles while Ryan Devere had one double.

Blake Wallace (1-0) pitched 5.1 innings picked up the win for the Cowboys. Wallace struck out five Kangaroos and gave up no earned runs. Chaz Frankenberry (0-4) took the loss for Austin College.

In game two, Hardin-Simmons jumped out to the lead 2-0 by scoring two runs on hits by John Schlaffer and Brady Coke. The Cowboys then scored one run in the third inning.

Austin College tried to gain the lead in the second half of the game but came up short. The Kangaroos scored two runs, one in the fifth inning and the other in the seventh inning.

Brandon Beene, Chuy Rodriguez and John Schlaffer all had two hits each for the Cowboys. Rodriguez had one triple.

Craig Foreman (1-5) pitched a complete seven inning game, struck out seven Kangaroos and picked up the win for HSU while Trey Hamm (0-7) took the loss for AC.

The Cowboys improved to 12-13 overall while AC dropped to 0-28 overall.

HSU will be back in action when they host cross-town rival McMurry in American Southwest Conference action Friday at 7 p.m. at Hunter Field.
