Hardin-Simmons Couldn't Break TLU's Win Streak

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons baseball team lost 4-0 and 8-5 to Texas Lutheran in an American Southwest Conference doubleheader Saturday at Hunter Field.

In the first game of the day, both teams went scoreless until Texas Lutheran scored three runs on back to back homers from John Krog and Nathan Kimball in the top of the fifth inning. The Bulldogs clinched the win by scoring one run in the seventh inning.

The Cowboys had two hits, one from Brandon Beene and the other from Chuy Rodriguez in the fourth inning.

Brad Tumis picked up the win for Texas Lutheran while Jonathan Emens (1-1) took the loss for the Cowboys.

In game two, the Cowboys scored three runs to take the lead 4-2 in the second inning. Brian Whitworth scored an unearned run while Chuy Rodriguez and Brandon Beene advanced home on John Schlaffer's single.

But the Bulldogs came back from behind and scored four runs in the fifth and two runs in the seventh inning to win.

Schlaffer led the Cowboys with three hits and four RBIs while Josh Anderlohr had two hits.

Jeff Paras picked up the win for the Bulldogs and Jared May (0-1) took the loss for the Cowboys.

Hardin-Simmons dropped to 10-13 overall and 6-9 in ASC action while Texas Lutheran improved to 26-0 overall and 12-0 in ASC play.

The Cowboys will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Sherman to take on Austin College in a doubleheader.
