Bishop Leads Cowboys To Win Over UT-Dallas

RICHARDSON, Texas - Josh Bishop pitched five scoreless innings in relief to lead the Hardin-Simmons baseball team past UT-Dallas, 5-3, Monday afternoon in Richardson.

UT-Dallas struck for three runs quickly in the second inning. After a single and hit batter Mark Perez hit a three-run homer. It was the only runs the Comets would get in the game and the Cowboys rallied.

In the fifth, Brad Coleman led off with a single up the middle and Scott Drake walked. Taylor Lamar put down a sacrifice bunt. After a fly out, Justin Wilson doubled to center to drive in both runners.

HSU put the came away with three runs in the seventh. Drake led off with a single and after a strikeout, Janisse and Wilson each singled. Drake scored on the Wilson single. Michael Simpson and Elliot Strader each followed with RBI singles.

Simpson had three hits for the Cowboys and Wilson had two hits and drove in two. Josh Bishop picked up the win with five innings of scoreless relief. It was his the best outing of his career. Kurtis Lay worked the night for his second save.

HSU improved to 14-9 with its third straight win and UT-Dallas fell to 11-12. HSU will play at Tarleton State in a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday.
