Cowboys Fall To Texas Lutheran

ABILENE, Texas - Propelled by a five-run third inning, Texas Lutheran remained undefeated on the year with a 6-2 win over Hardin-Simmons Friday evening in American Southwest Conference baseball action at HSU's Hunter Field.

Texas Lutheran's Carlos Buentello led off with a walk and moved to third on a double by Aaron Crais. Chad Wehe knocked in Buentello with a fielder's choice. Heath Higginbotham doubled down the left field line to score Crais. Brice Gilmore walked and Scott Barnard struck out. John Krog doubled to rightfield scoring Higginbotham and Gilmore. Two more runs scored on a Chuy Rodrgiuez throwing error.

TLU tacked on another run in the sixth inning when Dan Halvorson singled and moved to second on a bunt. Crais moved him to third with a single and Chad Wehe brought him home with a fielder's choice.

The Cowboys picked up two runs in the sixth when John Schlaffer singled to center and Josh Anderlohr had another single to left. A walk to Andy Harrington loaded the bases for Seth Gandy, who delivered a two-run single to left.

Anderlohr led the Cowboys with two hits. Higginbotham, Crais and Krog had two hits each for the Bulldogs.

Brent Roberts (6-0) picked up the win for TLU, while Kyle Tabor (3-3) took the loss despite pitching well for the Cowboys.

HSU fell to 10-11 overall and 6-7 in conference play with the loss. TLU improved to 24-0 and 10-0 in ASC play.

The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
