ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' took the second game of its series with a 7-6 win over crosstown rival McMurry in American Southwest Conference action at Hunter Field on Saturday. The Indians jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings. Joseph Cervantez scored on a wild pitch and then Brent Voorhees added an RBI single in the first. In the second inning, Kevin Heady had an RBI single making it 3-0. HSU responded with four runs in the third inning. The Cowboys got four straight single from Taylor Lamar, Ryan Stepp, Barry Janisse and Justin Wilson. Janisse drove in Lamar and Wilson drove in Stepp. Elliot Strader had an RBI double in the inning. The Cowboys added a run in the fourth when Taylor Lamar doubled and came around to score on a throwing error. Michael Simpson had an RBI triple in the fifth and Strader added an RBI single to make it 7-3. McMurry added three runs after a 56-minute rain delay in the top of the sixth to make it 7-6. Vorhees did the damage with a three-run shot to left center. Strader led the Cowboy attack with two hits and three RBIs. Taylor Lamar and Barry Janisse each had a pair of hits. Vorhees had four RBIs and two hits and Kevin Heady added three hits for McMurry. The Cowboys used a combined pitching performance from a pair of former McMurry pitchers for the win. Craig Foreman (1-3) went four and one-third innings for the win and Nick Kincaid got the save with two and two-third innings of relief. He worked a scoreless seventh, striking out two batters. HSU is now 14-9 on the year and 6-2 in ASC West action. McMurry fell to 16-10 overall and 6-2 in conference play. HSU will travel to UT-Dallas for a single game on Monday at 3 p.m. |
