GEORGETOWN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team got back on the winning track with a 14-11 win over Southwestern, Wednesday afternoon at Rockwell Field in Georgetown. Brad Coleman had a big day at the plate for the Cowboys with a single, two doubles, a home run and four RBIs. Taylor Gibbs drove in three runs and Taylor Lamar added two RBIs and scored three runs from his leadoff spot. HSU continued its year-long struggle with the big inning as the Cowboys gave up innings of five and six runs. Kyle Barton extended his recent string of success out of the bullpen with two and one-third innings of one-hit relief. He earned the win. Josh Alcorn earned the save with two and one-third innings of scoreless relief. HSU scored a run in the third, before Southwestern scored five in the bottom of the frame. The Cowboys immediately responded with six runs in the inning. HSU made its lead 12-5 going into the bottom of the seventh, but the Pirates added six runs to cut it to 12-11. The Cowboys will head to Belton for a 2 p.m. American Southwest Conference game on Friday to begin the crucial three-game set. All three games can be heard on KSLI 1280-AM or www.hsuathletics.com. HSU is 12-10 on the year and Southwestern fell to 8-15. |
